I started off my October (and beyond) challenge with the "Good Morning Extended" sequence from Barbara Benagh's Power Yoga for Every Body. My challenge areas in this sequence are, as usual, the standing balance poses, though I am seeing slow and steady improvement.

It's stopped raining, but my back door was swollen shut so I couldn't go out to the screened porch for mediation! But I'm listening to the cicadas now, and waiting to hear the first bird of the day.

I have a writing deadline on October 11, so I will be using my morning exercise time to write until I'm done.

That said, I have exercised 25 of the last 30 days and I would really like to keep that going, even if I'm only doing a very little bit every day. I want the place-holder. The promise that I will be back.

So, this morning was lat pulldowns on the weight machine. I want to get to pullups, but haven't got a bar yet, so I thought this was a good way to get started. 12 x 65lbs, 12 x 75lbs and 12x 82lbs. I was just winging it this morning, but I will probably do a few webcrawler searches and get some advice from the internet about exercises for the lats and back. Just a quick search showed that I am probably doing too much with the biceps and not enough with the lats, and I will be trying a shoudler adjustment Sunday. Also, this morning I did them underhand and close together, but I'd like to also be doing wider hand positions and with over hand grips as well. Mainly, I want a quick and dirty routine to work on this muscle group in anticipation of really working for pullups whenver I go out and get a dang pull up bar.

Tonight there will be shoudler openers. They're good prep for handstands, plus I just really, really want to be able to do Gomukhasana arms.

Today's run was one of those runs. I got a late start, the weather was stifling, my stomach was wonky, and I was really, really glad when it was over. It was supposed to be cloudy today, so I was hoping for some shade, knowing I was going to be out there for over two hours, but none of the clouds ever came between me and the sun. It was probably close to 90 degrees, without a bit of shade. I felt like I was flirting with heat exhaustion by the time I was done, despite drinking plenty of water and pouring water over my head now and then. And I forgot to put on sunscreen before I left this morning.

One good thing: my shoulders and neck didn't get sore, like they have on previous long runs. Yay pushups!

Just after I got home, the sky clouded over and we were pounded with thunderstorms for about an hour and a half. And now it's nice and cool. Oh well. I got my 9.5 miles in!
