Hey, EED community!

Here is your daily check-in post! Hope everyone is having a great day!

If you are posting for the first time, or new to the community, please review the community's standards, below.


1. Mod (that's me!) will post a Daily Check In post, for those who prefer to note their daily activities in response to a prompt. Please only place exercise comments here.

2. All members are encouraged to post daily independent posts about their activities, if they prefer that to a prompt.

3. Please place any NON-EXERCISE comments in independent update posts and behind a cut. Some people are sensitive to discussion of diet and nutrition. That is integral to many people's exercise activities, so I want members to be able to discuss that, but for those who are here strictly to log exercise, I would like them to be able to avert their eyes.

4. Everyone is encouraged to introduce themselves, discuss their exercise goals, and post updates on their activities. "I finally made it to running a mile!" or "I kicked up into handstand today!" are updates that we all want to hear about and share! Please put long posts and entries involving diet and nutrition behind a cut, though.

5. Aside from intro posts and injury announcements, please try to include an exercise update in every post.

Lifting! 25kg on the lateral machine, 5kg shoulder presses (next week I am hoping to move up to the 6kg for those), some lunges with weights I can't remember (15-20kg I think) and also I made one of the gym staff show me the proper weight room equipment (Smith machine, etc) instead of the isolating machines they showed me at my induction.

Definitely a rest day. Going to do lots of slow stretching to try to work some of the stiffness and aches out. I've been pushing it in recent weeks, and clearly need to back off a bit.

ETA: Okay, also doing some experimenting to work out a decent rotator cuff protection routine.

Strength training day today. Did 25 minutes of arms with a bit of other stuff thrown in:

* bench presses (barbell + 2 kilograms, up from only barbell, should go up in weight next time)
* bicep curls (only barbell, should go up in weight next time)
* squats (barbell + 2 kilograms, my first time actually going *down* with squats, hence the low weights. will work on form a bit more before going for weight)
* flies (dumbbells + 1 kilograms)
* bent-over rows (dumbbell + 3.5 kilograms, should go up in weight next time)
* going from flat standing to tip toes (I still don't know the name of that exercise! calf raises! anyway, did it with barbell + 2 kilograms, should go up in weight next time)
* back extensions

Cardio day! Recumbent bike, and then some rowing. Lots of stretches. Very pleased with myself, and the world has a rosy post-exercise glow to it.

Only fifteen minutes of wake-up yoga this morning, 'cause I overslept; Shiva Rea's "Earth" and "Chakra Namaskar" from the Daily Energy dvd this evening.

Belated - I climbed up a steep thing! Unfortunately I didn't get to go all the way to the top due to a flakeout on the part of a (human) exercise buddy. I'll drag him the whole way up next time!
