Finally got back out there today. There were still some fire trucks on the road, so I decided to walk around the house instead. I have a circular-ish dirt driveway around the house, which is just over a tenth of a mile long. I've measured it in my truck, and 19 laps is just over 2 miles.

I lost the sport watch that I used to use to count splits, so I counted laps the low-tech way: I picked up 19 small pebbles from the driveway to start out with, and dropped one every time I finished a lap. When I was out of pebbles, I was done!

To make things interesting while I was circling the house, I decided to add in a bit of running. I ran for about a minute every other lap. It felt really good! Now I'm all enthused about running again.

After my run/walk, I did 10 minutes of crunches and some yoga stretches.

I woke up this morning with aches and pains, bursitis and arthritis flaring up. But I went into child's pose for a few minutes to relax and stretch, then did a couple of sun salutations to stretch and get the blood moving.

After that, I did my yoga video, then when that was over the pain was gone! So I did 10 minutes of kickboxing and then went for a walk/jog for about 8 minutes.

I got sweaty and out of breath, but when it was over I felt fantastic! It's amazing how good exercise feels, and I always forget when I'm putting it off. Doing it this early in the morning (I started at 7am) not only gets it out of the way, but also sets up my day to be awesome! I get the blood moving, the muscles stretched and worked, and the endorphins flowing, or whatever they do.

No strength training scheduled for the day, so I'm going to ride this wave of awesome for as long as I can. Might do more yoga later if I get stiff and hurty again.

Yesterday's yoga hit me hard in the hip flexors. I thought I might do some step aerobics this morning, but decided sleep was the better part of valor and had a before work nap instead. (I get up with Husband at 4:15 am, watch a little TV with him and see him off to work, then usually start my workout at about 5:30am.)

However, Week 1, Day 1 of the hundred pushups program.

Week 3, Day 1 of the two hundred situps program. I get the joy of starting in Week 3 because I got 40 on my initial test.

I alternated sets of pushups and situps, and threw in some counterposes: Dhanurasana and Urdhva Dhanurasana, which feel *really* good after all that crunching and pushing. Also a few side leans and "swimming."

Arms felt shaky afterwards, and I think my abs will be hating me tomorrow. Probably means I did it right.

Last week was sorta chaotic because of job interviews/other unexpected things. I am now "catching up" on cardio by walking every day. It feels great to be outdoors. The weather has also improved, so I plan to resume hiking on the weekends.

I'm still trying to find places to do free-form dance on the weekends without people thinking I am There to Meet a Man. Dancing is around 2 hours of exercise, if I stay on the dance floor. Any suggestions? (I live in Boston.)
