This morning was The Bollywood Dance Workout, whcih I have out from the library this week, and I thought would make a nice change.

I love this DVD, btw. It has some bouncing and deep squats in it, so depending on your knees, you might have to go easy on some of the moves, and the abs section is short but killer. Also, the footwork section, for me, is all about exercising my sense of humor, since I suck at it! :D But the women are beautiful AND laughing at themselves for half the disc, the moves are really fun, the music just makes you want to move, and you will sweat.

Before doing any yoga, I have to go through what [personal profile] muck_a_luck suggests viewing as a cleansing ritual - sweeping up the gouts of dog hair. However much I try to make the procedure as a preliminary to my asanas, it still annoys me.

Anyway, lots of Rodney Yee, which I like because his DVD tends to get my heartrate up and involves slightly more cardio than others.

Another thing I did was keep the temperature in the house up. I have a friend who swears by 'hot yoga' in which the studio is 110° F, but that just sounds like an invitation to a heart attack to me. However, leaving the house a little warmer does seem like it also keeps my muscles warmer and I feel like I can sink further into the poses.

Empty laundry basket from living room to bedroom. Full laundry basket from bedroom to living room to basement. Rotate laundry one notch clockwise. Start washer and dryer. Full laundry basket from basement to living room. Wait an hour. Empty laundry basket from living room to bedroom. Lather, rinse, repeat until there is no more dirty laundry in the house.

We are a seven-person household. I am the only one who neither will be busy all day every day between now and when they all take off for vacation nor has a busted ankle. This might take a while.

Hi! I'm new around here, and I was going to just check in on the check-in post with a comment, but then started rambling, so I'm moving it to a post of its own.

I'm quite new to exercising on a regular basis, given that I haven't done much physically since I was fifteen/sixteen and doing ballet and karate (so, for five/six years). So I set myself the goal of doing things again this summer, and have so far completed the two hundred situps program and two hundred squats. At the moment, I'm doing the pushups program on Monday/Wednesday/Friday, and Couch to 5k on Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday. Mostly, I rest on Sundays, though I try to fit in some situps or something.

Today being Wednesday, I did some pushups. Not many yet, though. It's so much effort for me to do a good form pushup; I'm glad I'm on the lowest number for now because it'll let me get used to doing them.

Two questions I wanted to ask!

1) I've been running on our elliptical for Couch to 5k, and after trying a gentle run outdoors, found that my lungs were just not up to that. Any suggestions for a smooth transition from running thirty minutes on an elliptical to running outside (for a similar length of time, eventually)?

2) I've never done any yoga, and I'm kiiind of interested, but I can't sign up for a class for a while. Any recommendations of good starter DVDs, books, websites...?

HI! I'm lullabymoon, 22 and trying to get fit as well as manage my pain and fatigue. I'm basically starting from scratch, although I have been doing supervised gym workouts twice a week for the last 6 weeks.

For example today's workout consisted of  11 minutes of walking pace on the treadmill, 12 minutes on the recumbent bike, 13 minutes on the handbike and 40 reps of various weight machines. I'm going to try and get back into some yoga and pilates and I'm planning on going to my first Zumba class next week.

My question is: how do you manage to stop yourself from going overboard? I'm enjoying my workouts so far but I'm having to stop myself from pushing too far, too fast and screwing everything up. Any tips on how to get off the treadmill?

Just managed the hula today - put off ball work as I am very sore.

Tomorrow I have plans for heavy housework, so my normal routine will be shifted to accommodate that.
