I'm expecting a particularly hectic day today, so I made a pre-emptive strike against it by doing an extra-long, particularly mellowing workout this morning. It's not a commercially available dvd, unfortunately, but one which my yoga teacher (college-level course for academic credit) made available to us. There's a very strong focus on breathwork, meditation, and warmup - the first sun salutation isn't even until around thirty minutes in. Two versions of sun salutations, forward and back bends, spinal twists, inversions, a blissful guided relaxation, and closing meditation. Everything done very slowly and carefully. My body feels like happily melted goo right now!

And I don't really know if it's physical or psychological, but I do seem able to maintain the mellowness longer throughout the day once I've done this. I very seldom have to resort to something like deep breathing to relieve momentary stress (I'm in high-volume customer service) but it feels like a have a secret reserve of mellow that I'm able to draw on after doing this. My secret weapon.

I wussed out this morning in favor of writing.

However, various people's posts about 108 pushups and, of course, the hundred pushups program, made me want to tackle this project again.

Several months ago I was working on a 50 pushups goal on my own and seriously hurt my right elbow. I haven't felt a twinge in my elbow in I can't remember how long, so I'm ready to try again, THIS time doing Chaturanga pushups, as I believe that elbow posture is safer.

So my exercise for today was the pushup test. I did 9 full pushups. Might have made it to 10, but decided 9 was good enough.

Today was housecleaning day. Did a couple loads of laundry - which means hefting all the laundry two flights downstairs and then back up again when dry. Then, of course, folding and putting away. I did a bunch of bedding along with the standard load of clothing, today and that is pretty heavy in the basket.

Also, since I was feeling ambitious and my shoulder is feeling much better, I tackled the carpets. I have four cats, which means a lot of hair. Normally I would just run a vacuum every few days, but once a month I break out the vacuum and spend about an hour or so vacuuming not only the carpet, but the carpeted cat tower and all the micro-suede furniture. Then I proceeded to get out the steam cleaner and wash the carpets in the living area.

After all that - which took about three to four hours - I was pretty much done.

And damn, but I am tired.

Stormed around the neighborhood in lieu of punching sister. It's about a mile loop.

Hey everyone! My name's Beth, I'm 28, and I'm working on getting better eating and working out habits. At least today was a good day, exercise-wise!

Today, I walked a total of a mile and a half - I walked to work this morning, which was 4/10ths of a mile, and then I took a walk with my fiance and my best friend, which was a 1 and 1/10th of a mile. I've gotta work my way up to 3 miles a day again - I used to walk that every day when I lived across town!
