Hey, everybody! Hope everybody gets a chance to exercise today! I envision us each just doing a post to the community every day we get a chance to exercise.

This is supposed to be a low pressure, supportive scenario. But it is also supposed to be encouraging adn motivating. Would people like me to do a Monday roundup, of who posted during the previous week?

Like:

CK - 4 days
Rydra_Wong - 6 days (and one rest day! :D )
and so on?

Or is that WAY TOO COMPETITIVE AND STRESSFUL OMG?

Alternatively, we could split it. Anybody who wanted to be on the roundup could let me know, and anyone who found that too stressful could let me know, and I would only round up the ones who wanted that. I could even cut the round up to make it easy for people who might find it stress inducing to just not look at it.

I'm trying to think how a mod could add to the usefulness of the community. However, maybe there isn't anything really for me TO do, but sit back and enjoy the fellowship.

Thoughts?

So this is my introductory post. My goal here is to get some form of exercise in every morning before work, 10-15 minutes. I've tried doing it the other way, when I come home, but I'm usually too beat that I really have to push myself. I'm on summer vacation at the moment, so I'm hoping to have this habit in place before school starts.

Abs - a few sets of crunches on the balance ball
Triceps - working up to dips with my feet on the balance ball, but currently having wrist problems that's making these pretty uncomfortable. Doing them anyway.
Yoga - Rodney Yee (not the whole thing, I tend to skip around)

I have no idea how much I weigh because I don't own a scale, but I have a check up next week, so I supposed I'll find out.

Discussion continues about comm policies here, but consensus of the commenters seems to be that a check-in post would be very helpful to many comm participants.

So here's today's post to check-in!

However, I would also like to strongly encourage people to post independently, as [personal profile] seleneheart and I did earlier today. Basically, use the check-in post or use your own individual post, whatever works best for you.

I'd also like to encourage people to introduce themselves if they are comfortable with that. Ramble as much as you like, but if you're going to be very long, please put the intro piece of your post behind a cut.

Especially, please place comments about weight, diet and nutrition behind the cut. (And just to emphasize, this community is about the exercise, not dieting! Those things are often interconnected, but in no way do you need to feel obligated to comment on anything related to anything except your daily exercise!)

ALSO! :D If you have goals in your exercise that you would like to post in the community, or accomplishments to mention as we move forward, I think that would be great, too! Since I'm hoping there will be a lot of posting (if we all post every day outside the check-in post that would be 13 (so far) posts every day), if you could do a free-standing daily report, with your other comments behind a cut to spare reading pages, that would be awesome.

Hello!

Hi, I'm CC, and I need to start completely over, fitness-wise. More about that. )

*waves* Hiya!

I have good exercise habits, I think, and am easily able to maintain a regular exercise routine - I'm an early-rising empty nester so not too many distractions or time conflicts around. In the course of a week I spend time on yoga, pilates, elliptical machine, and, weather permitting, walking (the weather hasn't permitted in quite a while, though - the last day I remember walking was July 2. It's just too, too darn hot.) Like [personal profile] seleneheart, I really have to exercise first thing in the morning, because by the time I get home from work, I can think of a zillion excuses not to.

My greatest fear is that I'll lose motivation, start skipping days, and then just not bother to get back on track, so I'm looking forward mutual encouragement and cheerleading from other members of this community.

Hello everyone! My name is Romy. I am exercising for my health. After living in a sick building (black mold) and developing chronic bronchitis and asthma, I packed on the pounds. Now, at 37 years old, I have realized that as I get older, this weight could be a health risk for me as diabetes runs in both sides of my family. Truth be told, the diabetes frightens me more than heart disease.

I am trying to exercise everyday...trying. Currently, I am dealing with a shoulder injury so my main focus has been leg and ab work. weights and bands are out of the question at the moment until I heal. Any suggestions on care and treatment (and possible exercise) for a strained shoulder would be great! It's getting better, but I am impatient.

I am overweight, but have been steadily losing pounds for about a year. I have lost about 50 and I have at least 100 more to go. But, now and again, I do have setbacks (like my shoulder). I also have time constraints as I am finally pursuing two bachelors degrees after having a long relationship with low self-esteem. I am also studying abroad in Japan this fall for three months and I have no idea how that will be impacting my exercise plans - but chance are I will be biking a lot. I prefer to exercise in the morning, but that isn't always an option and I lose steam in the afternoon. I am still on a search for how to fit my 90 minutes into a neat little hole of time.

I have dissociative identity disorder so if I slip and throw a few wrong pronouns around ("we" in particular) please forgive me. But this also makes exercise a challenge. Then there is my significant other who, while supportive, sometimes gets in the way of exercise. It is just hard to exercise around her.

Recently, I have given up refined sugar and refined wheat flour which has made an incredible difference in my life. I have finally shed all that water that I retained and couldn't seem to get rid of. So, my diet has done a complete 180 degrees from where it was and I couldn't be happier.

For exercise, I engage in walking, occasional swimming when the weather holds (which lately, it has not), hula dancing, strength exercises, and balance ball for my core. (I also play around on the Wii Fit...but I don't know if that counts as exercise.)

Hi, I'm Ellie, and I'm trying to get into the habit of daily exercise because my choices are hurt because I didn't exercise and hurt because I did, and the latter seems somehow healthier. Also I can't walk a mile and a half without getting exhausted, and I don't like that. So what I want to be doing is cardio, flexibility, and strength. I've been doing half-mile or mile walks and some yoga and Pilates. See also, hot; see also, ow; see also, lazy.

Earlier this summer I did speak to someone on staff at the local gym about an exercise program, specifically resistance training to increase my upper body strength, and a very irregular exercise schedule has nonetheless produced a noticeable improvement. (Now I can start the damn lawnmower without asking for help!) You'd think that'd constitute incentive. So today's exercise, which the mere existence of this comm guilted me into, was a round of that. Ten reps of an assortment of exercises with a light resistance band, except for a medium band on the exercise that works my shoulders, plus a few pushups and squats. Ow.
