Absolute Kickboxing with Combat Intervals

I did not do the whole thing, which is almost 100 minutes. I chose the 68 minute workout with kickboxing only, dropping out the three Combat Intervals, whatever they are. I don't have a body bar anyway, whatever that is. I did do the "bonus" weighted core training and stretch that comes after the Cardio Cooldown section.

The weighted core training was awesome, btw. The kickboxing was certainly aerobic, and I was pleased that, though I did get breathing hard, especially when she started combining roundhouse kicks, knee whatsits and shin blocks - I mean, that is some serious big muscle work in the legs - I was not really challenged on teh cardio element. I always worry that yoga isn't enough cardio, but the fast vinyasas must be plenty, because I could have kept going, no problem.

The concept of kickboxing was interesting. I've never done martial arts, so the concept of imagining hurting an opponent, and protecting myself from one, was a new mental image to bring to a workout. As usual, I was unhappy working lunges into a normal workout, since the way I lunge these days, my stance is never wide enough to accomodate my lunge when I'm just doing usual aerobics. I always have to fix my feet to get the depth in the knee and groin. Annoyance. Also, I think it is possible that my knees are too old for it. Or possibly, I was not getting the rotation and lift in the foot that I should have been getting to take the stress off the knee.

It made an interesting switch from my same-old, same-old, but I don't think this will be a frequent thing for me. That said, her core moves were spectacular, and I may need to look for this instructor doing a core focused DVD.
