[personal profile] muck_a_luck posting in [community profile] exercise_every_day
Hey, EED community!

Here is your daily check-in post! Hope everyone is having a great day!

If you are posting for the first time, or new to the community, please review the community's standards, below.

1. Mod (that's me!) will post a Daily Check In post, for those who prefer to note their daily activities in response to a prompt. Please only place exercise comments here.

2. All members are encouraged to post daily independent posts about their activities, if they prefer that to a prompt.

3. Please place any NON-EXERCISE comments in independent update posts and behind a cut. Some people are sensitive to discussion of diet and nutrition. That is integral to many people's exercise activities, so I want members to be able to discuss that, but for those who are here strictly to log exercise, I would like them to be able to avert their eyes.

4. Everyone is encouraged to introduce themselves, discuss their exercise goals, and post updates on their activities. "I finally made it to running a mile!" or "I kicked up into handstand today!" are updates that we all want to hear about and share! Please put long posts and entries involving diet and nutrition behind a cut, though.

5. Aside from intro posts and injury announcements, please try to include an exercise update in every post.

Situps and yoga, this morning. Walking later.

*curls up in a ball* Can I be well again soon, please?

Do you have the chest-cold thing? It seems to drag on forever, doesn't it?

I had a reeeeaally bad sore throat, which thankfully went away after a day or two, and now I just have some congestion and a cough that kinda feels like it might rip my chest apart somehow. Urgghh.

Yep, I had all that, and most of the folks around my workplace have had it too. Hope you get to feeling better soon!

First and last segments of Ravi Singh and Ana Brett's Yoga Total Tuneup. I really like this for mornings when I'm pressed for time, or not in the mood for a more traditional workout. The pace is just right and I appreciate the focus on meditation, breathwork, upper body, and neck.

20 minutes of cardio on the elliptical machine, which I hadn't tried before.

30 minutes or so of weights. As I'm paying more attention to the various muscle groups, I'm really struck by how different my current abilities with them are. For example I can do 20kg on the lateral bar up to 3x12 reps, but I really struggled to finish a set of 8 chest presses with no extra weight at all.

Yesterday my copy of the New Rules of Lifting for Women came in the post, which isn't technically exercise I did but is still exciting! \o/

*nods* It's fascinating, isn't it? And the disparity is completely normal; even as you get stronger overall, some muscle groups will still be able to move waaaay weight than others can. It's all about relative muscle size and leverage.

Also, yay book!

Morning yoga, barbell time. I've tweaked a muscle or tendon in one arm so I kept the bench and overhead press light and mostly worked on maintaining my squat, and did a bunch of good mornings to keep my back happy. I foresee some time spent with an anatomy book working out what I've disgruntled so I can re-gruntle it again.

In more cheerful news, I almost got a fifth consecutive pull-up (my chin didn't quite make it over the bar). And I've started using the assisted pull-up machine to work towards one-armed pull-ups. The unilateral movement is important for climbing, and I've noticed that my right arm is doing more than its fair share of the work in pull-ups, so I want to get my left arm (literally) pulling its weight.

Yay! For the pull ups. One handed? Yikes! That's impressive to even try.

That's with huge amounts of assistance right now. *g* But I figure any improvement in that direction is a good thing, climbing-wise. And it might also help the regular pull-ups if I can get my left arm in on the action some more.

(Also I am a pathetic John Gill fangirl.)

Yoga (working on Hanumanasana) and pull ups last night.

Had another session with the personal trainer this afternoon. Did kettle balls foe the first time. Wow! Totally kicked my butt, but was a lot of fun.

More yoga after work - I don't get to double dip often, but the boss is out, today.

I'm back from out of town (where I was without Web access) and am back at my dance class. Unfortunately, they changed the times for it, so I'll have to go to a class on the weekend instead. The new class should be good, though.

Crossfit - too many squat cleans and too many deadlifts, and the shoulder didn't quite hold up, though it didn't give out on me.
