Workout plan!
Mar. 13th, 2012 12:36 pmSo, having read a *ton* of stuff about workouts, workout plans, barbells, other weights, and bodyweight exercise;
Having just managed to run a mile;
And, having thought about my fitness goals;
I sat down for an hour and a half last night wrote up a six-week training plan for myself.
IDEK.

Date: 2012-03-13 07:06 pm (UTC)I occasionally come up with workout ideas but they tend to have more "this really fun thing I want to do" rather than "what will further my actual fitness goals" so they're not really actual training plans. I need to work on that. Though "this really fun thing I want to do" should always be in them too. :)

Date: 2012-03-14 01:26 pm (UTC)I wanted a blend of weights and bodyweight. I wanted blend of intervals and slower cardio. I wanted a set of workouts that I could could as few as three days a week or as many as five, depending on my schedule. I wanted workouts that exercised my whole body in different ways to avoid over training. I want to improve my squats, deadlift, pushups, and shoulder press.
I know what days I am likely to get to the Y, where the rowing machine, barbells, and swimming pool are. I planned routines for those days based on that. On the other days, when I might get to the Y or might be working out at home, I planned routines using bodyweight or dumbbells, and cycling or running.
The first routine in the week, after rest days, has my big deadlifts and shoulder presses. My last day, Saturday, I only have 45 minutes during my son's swim class, so that's running and stretching -- and then I have two rest days to recover from the longer, harder run.
The routines for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday are all lower-stress full body workouts, doing different specific activities. If I miss a day, that's fine, or I can switch routines around between the three days.
