[personal profile] devilc posting in [community profile] exercise_every_day
Hey, EED community!

Here is your daily check-in post! Hope everyone is having a great day!

If you are posting for the first time, or new to the community, please review the community's standards, below.

1. Mod (or someone else) will post a Daily Check In post, for those who prefer to note their daily activities in response to a prompt. Please only place exercise comments here.

2. All members are encouraged to post daily independent posts about their activities, if they prefer that to a prompt.

3. Please place any NON-EXERCISE comments in independent update posts and behind a cut. Some people are sensitive to discussion of diet and nutrition. That is integral to many people's exercise activities, so I want members to be able to discuss that, but for those who are here strictly to log exercise, I would like them to be able to avert their eyes.

4. Everyone is encouraged to introduce themselves, discuss their exercise goals, and post updates on their activities. "I finally made it to running a mile!" or "I kicked up into handstand today!" are updates that we all want to hear about and share! Please put long posts and entries involving diet and nutrition behind a cut, though.

5. Aside from intro posts and injury announcements, please try to include an exercise update in every post.

Chilled at home and did the 75-minute Yoga Journal podcast class, which I love dearly.

It's one of the benchmarks that I've been coming back to repeatedly over the last two years, and it's always interesting to see how different it feels, and how many new things I get out of it.

I'm going to be at a con next weekend, so rather than interrupt stage 7, I thought I'd try out a split routine and lift two days in a row. So today was a lower body day: deadlifts, squats*, split squats with the back foot on a Swiss ball (hahaha oh balance) and some calf-raises because I've never done isolation exercises for my legs. In my opinion, the only thing they added to the workout was letting me get more rest after the squats before attempting to balance on one leg with weight for the split squats -- next time I'll be putting these after the squats instead of going right into split squats. (I repeat, hahaha oh balance) Alternating calf raises with the split squats helped a lot. First set I only managed 4 of 8 reps before losing the Swissball, but managed to get it together enough to do 8 reps by set 3. Finished up with planks and side planks and was much more tired doing them than usual. I can see why NRoLfA puts them before the weight training, but I'll keep them at the end since if I'm short on time, those are what I'd cut because I'm doing them on non-lifting days.

Lower body not feeling particularly tired**; felt it a bit more in my arms, probably because I haven't done deadlifts in a while and they're not used to hanging on to that much weight. Hopefully they will be sufficiently rested by tomorrow's upper body half of the split.

* I'm excited because I finally found a work-around to not having a safety bar for squats by squatting between two of our couch pieces. I didn't test it, but I think it's tall and wide enough to catch the bar if I need to dump it without hurting myself, but low enough to not get in my way when I'm squatting. This'll let me work up to testing a one-rep max, finally.

** I've yet to be really sore after a workout, actually. I don't know if this means my body is just doing an awesome job recovering or if I'm not pushing myself enough. It doesn't feel like I could be lifting more weight for the number of reps that I'm doing, so hopefully the former?
