Hi all
I'm new to the community (although I've seen it pop up on my network page for a few weeks now) and I thought it'd be the perfect way to give myself that kick I need each day! LOL!
About a year ago, I was warned by a doctor that my sugar levels were too high and I was at serious risk of developing full-blown diabetes. At the time, I weighed over 14 stone which, at 5' 4", was far too much. I half-heartedly dieted for a while and tried to "fix" my diet, but I failed because my heart wasn't in it.
In March this year, my Uncle came to visit from Australia. He was in the same boat as me and recommended a low-carb diet that he was following for diabetics. I made the decision then and there that if he was doing it, I could too.
The diet has worked wonders - it's very strict, but I'm feeling healthier than I ever did in the past and it's more a lifestyle change than a diet - and it's given me the energy to exercise properly. Since March, I've lost just over 2 stone and gone down a dress size and a half.
I know, though, that without exercising, I won't lose the last stone and half I want to get rid of.
I tend to use my Wii as my main form of exercise as I don't have the money for a gym and the area where I live isn't suitable for running/walking. I have a cardio exercise "game" that I'm trying to use for 15 mins a day, and I enjoy doing the Just Dance routines. In addition, I walk to and from the car park to work each day - 10 mins each way.
I'm probably not what you would consider a "serious" exerciser, but I'm trying!
If you don't hear from me for a couple of days, please feel free to email, pm or otherwise hassle me! I have extremely bad commitment levels, but I also don't like letting people down :)
