Monday, July 11, 2011, Check-In
Jul. 11th, 2011 05:54 amHey, EED community!
Here is your daily check-in post! Hope everyone is having a great day!
If you are posting for the first time, or new to the community, please review the community's standards, below.
1. Mod (that's me!) will post a Daily Check In post, for those who prefer to note their daily activities in response to a prompt. Please only place exercise comments here.
2. All members are encouraged to post daily independent posts about their activities, if they prefer that to a prompt.
3. Please place any NON-EXERCISE comments in independent update posts and behind a cut. Some people are sensitive to discussion of diet and nutrition. That is integral to many people's exercise activities, so I want members to be able to discuss that, but for those who are here strictly to log exercise, I would like them to be able to avert their eyes.
4. Everyone is encouraged to introduce themselves, discuss their exercise goals, and post updates on their activities. "I finally made it to running a mile!" or "I kicked up into handstand today!" are updates that we all want to hear about and share! Please put long posts and entries involving diet and nutrition behind a cut, though.
5. Aside from intro posts and injury announcements, please try to include an exercise update in every post.

Date: 2011-07-11 02:01 pm (UTC)Body weight matrix is made of slightly less death, though I still can't do the whole thing without pausing between segments and I have to break up the jumping squats into two sets of ten and one of four. Did the jumping lunges without needing to stop this time though.

Date: 2011-07-11 03:49 pm (UTC)Barbell squat: went to the staff member on duty and asked her how. Her advice was wrong but still useful. (I don't know much, but I do know that "Never squat past 90 degrees, it will harm your knees" is wrong advice. Also, she didn't show me how to use the cage, so I'm still very unsure of what happens when I fail or fall over or whatever.) 15kg, 1 set, 5 reps. Still getting the hang of balance.
Bench press: 1st set 15kg dumbbells, 8 reps, 12.5kg 2 reps. 2nd set, 15kgx6, 12.5x4.
Rows, 20kg dumbbells, 2 sets, 10 reps.
Shoulder press: 1st set 7.5kg dumbbells (the 10kg were in use) 10 reps, 2nd set 10kg, 10 reps.
Plank: 1 set, 60 seconds.

There should (unless it's a badly-equipped gym) be safety rails that extend out from the rack at about waist height and are just under the barbell when you're at the bottom of a squat.
If you can't get up or you fall over, you dump the bar back off your shoulders onto the rails (and, in my case, thump onto my arse in an undignified manner). It's worth practicing once or twice so it doesn't feel scary, but it's not a complicated maneuver; you collapse and the rails will catch the bar, pretty much no matter what you do.
