[personal profile] muck_a_luck posting in [community profile] exercise_every_day
Hey, EED community!

Here is your daily check-in post! Hope everyone is having a great day!

If you are posting for the first time, or new to the community, please review the community's standards, below.

1. Mod (that's me!) will post a Daily Check In post, for those who prefer to note their daily activities in response to a prompt. Please only place exercise comments here.

2. All members are encouraged to post daily independent posts about their activities, if they prefer that to a prompt.

3. Please place any NON-EXERCISE comments in independent update posts and behind a cut. Some people are sensitive to discussion of diet and nutrition. That is integral to many people's exercise activities, so I want members to be able to discuss that, but for those who are here strictly to log exercise, I would like them to be able to avert their eyes.

4. Everyone is encouraged to introduce themselves, discuss their exercise goals, and post updates on their activities. "I finally made it to running a mile!" or "I kicked up into handstand today!" are updates that we all want to hear about and share! Please put long posts and entries involving diet and nutrition behind a cut, though.

5. Aside from intro posts and injury announcements, please try to include an exercise update in every post.

Morning yoga, two hours amazingly ineffectual climbing (my shoulder is still being cranky -- nothing drastic, I think just a nerve getting pinched, but I'm grumpy because I thought I'd mostly sorted out my shoulder issues). My second ever weighted pull-up, just to make me feel marginally better.

The weighted pull-up is really "a regular pull-up, made much dorkier by trying to hang off the pull-up bar with a small weight-plate clamped between my knees". And I can only do one. But it's morale-boosting.

I submit that doing a pull-up with an extra weight plate is amazing and nowhere near as dorky as doing pull-ups with big-ass rubber bands designed to help one lift one's middle-aged beer belly with middle-aged noodly appendages. :-) And then accidentally slipping when removing said rubber bands, such that they snap back around the bar and smack one on the back of the head. :-o

*g* Oh, I am familiar with the hazards of pinging myself with the giant rubber bands.

But you know what is even dorkier and more awesome? At the gym today, I saw a woman try a max clean, not quite make it, try to bail, fall backwards, and end up lying on the floor with the barbell on top of her (she was fine -- the big plates provide plenty of clearance for a smallish person).

And I admired that SO FUCKING MUCH. Because she was pushing her limits and she had a truly epic fail, and she didn't let it scare or humiliate her.

That is excellent. In a context like this, epic fail is only a precursor to epic win.

I'm really tired, today, and hurt my legs somehow -- probably too much going up and down stairs in the library -- so all I've done today is a bit of walking.

7 km bicycling, at the gym, NRoLfW stage 1, workout 8A. One to go, then the specials, than on to stage 2. Which means I better start gathering up my nerve to ask the gym people for a decent step.

My form on the suqats might have been bad, because my back is now having Words with me. Could be unrelated, though.

Managed to stay in a handstand for about 15 seconds without touching the wall or having to go down. It's strange, when it works, I feel all the muscles that do the balancing. When it doesn't, it seems as if no one's home. I'm not seeing getting *up* without balancing against the wall any time in the near future, though.

One kilometre of swimming, briefly interrupted after the first ten laps because I realised my mother was coming over at 3:30 and it was now 3:35 and I was at the pool, not at home. Rang her, sopping wet, then went back to swimming.

Your swimming is seriously impressive (mine is both very slow and usually very brief).

If you were in London and it was May already, I would be trying to drag you to the Serpentine Lido, the most beautiful swimming place I know (open sky! perfect water temperature! trees! swans!). Since neither of these things is true, I'll have to settle for sending soothing swimming thoughts in your direction.
