Wednesday, March 30, 2011, Check-In
Mar. 30th, 2011 04:21 amHey, EED community!
Here is your daily check-in post! Hope everyone is having a great day!
If you are posting for the first time, or new to the community, please review the community's standards, below.
1. Mod (that's me!) will post a Daily Check In post, for those who prefer to note their daily activities in response to a prompt. Please only place exercise comments here.
2. All members are encouraged to post daily independent posts about their activities, if they prefer that to a prompt.
3. Please place any NON-EXERCISE comments in independent update posts and behind a cut. Some people are sensitive to discussion of diet and nutrition. That is integral to many people's exercise activities, so I want members to be able to discuss that, but for those who are here strictly to log exercise, I would like them to be able to avert their eyes.
4. Everyone is encouraged to introduce themselves, discuss their exercise goals, and post updates on their activities. "I finally made it to running a mile!" or "I kicked up into handstand today!" are updates that we all want to hear about and share! Please put long posts and entries involving diet and nutrition behind a cut, though.
5. Aside from intro posts and injury announcements, please try to include an exercise update in every post.

Date: 2011-03-30 10:07 am (UTC)I seem to be getting back into the swing of this well, though admittedly my yoga sessions have been very short.

Date: 2011-03-30 10:37 am (UTC)Split squats, bodyweight, assisted, 10 reps
Dumbbell rows, 15kg, 10 reps/side
Dumbbell bench press, 10kg, 10 reps
Bench plank, 60 sec.
Two sets.
God, I hate split squats. Also, my left leg seems to be significantly weaker than my right. I increased the weight on the bench press by a kilo. I think it can still go up a little, but I might leave it at 10kg until next week.
I'm wondering if I should start doing the plank on the floor like a normal person - it's still challenging, but it's no longer that whole body trembling experience. Maybe if I stick my butt high enough in the air my belly won't take all my weight and defeat the purpose of the exercise? Or I guess I could keep doing the bench plank, but hold it for longer?

Date: 2011-03-30 02:48 pm (UTC)Yeah, it's pretty common to find that one arm or leg is stronger than the other. It's good to try to balance it out, but some level of asymmetry is standard. Ditto with flexibility.
Or I guess I could keep doing the bench plank, but hold it for longer?
That's an option. Or you could look for something intermediate between the bench and the floor; your gym might (or might not) have some low plastic or wooden platforms you could put your hands on. Or you could make the bench plank harder by doing variations on it -- lifting one arm or leg in the air is a common one.

Date: 2011-03-31 09:09 pm (UTC)The entity in my icon is not basement cat, actually, but a temporary incarnation of a lesser spirit of chaos. He was both black (as you see in the icon) and snow white (if you combed him the wrong way), and felt it was the height of cuteness to bite people while purring like a madcat. Everyone loved him. He left us far too young.
