[personal profile] muck_a_luck posting in [community profile] exercise_every_day
Hey, EED community!

Here is your daily check-in post! Hope everyone is having a great day!

If you are posting for the first time, or new to the community, please review the community's standards, below.

1. Mod (that's me!) will post a Daily Check In post, for those who prefer to note their daily activities in response to a prompt. Please only place exercise comments here.

2. All members are encouraged to post daily independent posts about their activities, if they prefer that to a prompt.

3. Please place any NON-EXERCISE comments in independent update posts and behind a cut. Some people are sensitive to discussion of diet and nutrition. That is integral to many people's exercise activities, so I want members to be able to discuss that, but for those who are here strictly to log exercise, I would like them to be able to avert their eyes.

4. Everyone is encouraged to introduce themselves, discuss their exercise goals, and post updates on their activities. "I finally made it to running a mile!" or "I kicked up into handstand today!" are updates that we all want to hear about and share! Please put long posts and entries involving diet and nutrition behind a cut, though.

5. Aside from intro posts and injury announcements, please try to include an exercise update in every post.

After Sunday's bicycling in the cold, my lungs are not completely happy with me, so I'm taking it slow for now.

Oww. Blisters/callouses ripping off?

In case it might be of any use, as a climber I have WAY TOO MUCH INFORMATION on mending and protecting the skin on your hands when you're doing things like that to it; I can deluge you with tips if it would be of use.

ETA: You may know all this already, of course, which is why I'm asking.

Yeah - kinda like when the calluses go when bouldering, except on a metal bar already slippery with sweat and bitterness.

I tape my hands up for rock climbing, but I've never been able to get tape to stick for pull-ups - what do you do for stuff like that?

Is it the location that's the problem? I.e. base of fingers/top of palm, that sort of area? Yeah, I've never found a way of taping that area either, at least not without mummifying my hands.

*ponders*

FWIW, I've got best results out of using a really good hand balm (Climb On Bar or Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream, or at the moment my own homemade version) after climbing to keep the skin supple, and then shaving down any calluses (using one of those micro-plane grater things intended for removing dead skin from your feet, though some people swear by sandpaper). You keep the toughness, but the skin's much less likely to rip when it isn't ridged up.

Yeah, bottom of the fingers/beginning of palm. Chalk helps, but nothing much stays on there, especially with the torque.

I've never tried shaving off the calluses though - gonna give that a try. Thanks kindly! \o/

Another tip (which I only learned recently) is, if you're using chalk, to wash it off as soon as you're done: apparently it tends to dry the skin out and make cracking and splitting more likely if you leave it on.

After fifteen minutes of housework warm-up, I did fifteen minutes of jogging in place and mixed weights in the living room.
