muck_a_luck: (Exercise Every Day)
[personal profile] muck_a_luck posting in [community profile] exercise_every_day
Hey, EED community!

Here is your daily check-in post! Hope everyone is having a great day!

If you are posting for the first time, or new to the community, please review the community's standards, below.

1. Mod (that's me!) will post a Daily Check In post, for those who prefer to note their daily activities in response to a prompt. Please only place exercise comments here.

2. All members are encouraged to post daily independent posts about their activities, if they prefer that to a prompt.

3. Please place any NON-EXERCISE comments in independent update posts and behind a cut. Some people are sensitive to discussion of diet and nutrition. That is integral to many people's exercise activities, so I want members to be able to discuss that, but for those who are here strictly to log exercise, I would like them to be able to avert their eyes.

4. Everyone is encouraged to introduce themselves, discuss their exercise goals, and post updates on their activities. "I finally made it to running a mile!" or "I kicked up into handstand today!" are updates that we all want to hear about and share! Please put long posts and entries involving diet and nutrition behind a cut, though.

5. Aside from intro posts and injury announcements, please try to include an exercise update in every post.

Power Yoga with Rodney Yee. Hey, I missed him! *grin* and I only had an hour for yoga today. Funny that after all the agony and stress (self-imposed, of course) this is now a comfort set for me. Good times.

AUGH YESTERDAY. Arms hurt from all the boxes hauling, legs hurt from all the up and down stairs and up and down from ornament box pile to tree and back, everything hurts. Rest day.

On the bright side, I don't have to look at Christmas kitsch for another eleven months.

ETA: Best-laid plans: guess who got to haul groceries?

sun salutations and 20 minutes or so of dog drag. Actually, she is getting better but then we met up with another 4 mos old puppy out for a drag and it was like having toddlers on a play date all over again!

Yoga first thing in the morning, probably only 15 minutes. After a long break from morning exercise, I had trouble getting moving when I woke up feeling so stiff and creaky!

Thursday so curling (1.5 hrs worth of aggravating my elbow joint issues) + 20 min shoveling showplow ice chunks + 10 min of yoga. That's it for today.

Death by Burpee

CrossFit #2 is under my belt. Kettlebells and burpees (which I grew up calling squat-thrusts, except I think the burpee adds the jump & clap thingee on the end -- I'm not sure, since it's a long time since I took 3rd grade PE).

My arms and legs are in pain, of course, but what surprises me is how much burn I've got in my abs. I'm surprised because we haven't done any obvious ab exercises -- no crunches or sit-ups or leg raises. Just the effort of keeping good form in the squat-based exercises and the pushups seems to be enough to do it.

So those burpees were goddamn hard. My arms could (mostly) do it, my legs could (mostly) do it, but the abdominal control needed to keep a good push-up going rapidly abandoned me, so the middle part of each burpee must have looked like a flounder on dry land.

For certain values of "fun," yes. =)

What she said. And on the squats front, the Sotts press (an overhead press from the bottom position of a squat) kills my abs faster than anything else I know.

Planks are a really good way to build that kind of core control, btw.

Had to look up "Sott's press," and my, that does look painful.

Planks, running...turns out I need an exercise program to support my exercise program! :-D

Oh yeah -- half of my exercise program exists to support my climbing. *g*

But I have a very low boredom threshold (and attention span), so I like having a wide vocabulary of moves and types of exercise to play with. I suspect it helps to avoid overuse injuries, and I enjoy learning new movement skills.

Yes! And that's why I'm doing CrossFit instead of just joining a gym or a runners' club.
