smackshack: a crude digital self-portrait (Default)

I've been very good for the last week, going for all my walks and attending my CrossFit Elements classes. Tonight was the first "real" class, a Level I class designed for creaky people like myself. It was a benchmarking class, which means that after our warm-up we had to see how many sets of 5 pull-ups, 10 push-ups, and 15 squats we could do in a 20-minute period. This particular workout is nicknamed "Cindy" -- I wonder what she did to deserve it.  I managed almost five sets and was pretty proud of myself until I learned that the two women in class with me each completed nine.

Am I a slacker? I did deliberately pace myself because I didn't want to burn out early. But I pushed to failure on the push-ups and pull-ups a couple of times, and I needed mechanical assistance for all the pull-ups. I think I could have done more squats, but the upper-body work completely winded me.

And the warm-up included skipping rope. I have never been good at skipping rope.  I hardly ever did it as a child. I kept tripping myself. But the women did well...maybe little girls spend more time jumping rope while little boys are picking their noses, trying to eat frogs, and hitting one another with rocks.

Ahahaha just wait til you get to Fran. And Fight Gone Bad.

Skipping rope will come - I still can't do more than 3 double-unders in a row, but that's more than I could do two months ago.

Traditionally it's the graduation workout - I'll let your trainers let you in on it when you get there. *g*
