Thirded! You can't get much closer to functional strength than "lifting heavy shit that needs to be lifted."

This totally is strength training. I've seen a website that recommended lifting sandbags if you can't afford a kettlebell... same idea, really.

There are even sites that sell extra-tough sandbags with handles specially for weightlifting -- they're more expensive than many kettlebells.

Unwieldy weights work all your stabilizing muscles, so they're great if you're into functional strength.

I never heard of those before... do you think they're better to use than a regular sandbag/heavy object?

Functional strength is a goal of mine. Right now, I'm just using my body weight, although I have weights here too.

I haven't tried one, but as far as I can see: not unless you have a movement idea that you really need the handles for. Or if you're really chucking it around and are worried it might burst, in which case "extra duct tape" seems like a cheaper option *g*.

One can solve lots of problems with duct tape. LOL.

That makes sense.
