Here is your daily check-in post! Hope everyone is having a great day!

If you are posting for the first time, or new to the community, please review the community's standards, below.


1. Mod (that's me!) will post a Daily Check In post, for those who prefer to note their daily activities in response to a prompt. Please only place exercise comments here.

2. All members are encouraged to post daily independent posts about their activities, if they prefer that to a prompt.

3. Please place any NON-EXERCISE comments in independent update posts and behind a cut. Some people are sensitive to discussion of diet and nutrition. That is integral to many people's exercise activities, so I want members to be able to discuss that, but for those who are here strictly to log exercise, I would like them to be able to avert their eyes.

4. Everyone is encouraged to introduce themselves, discuss their exercise goals, and post updates on their activities. "I finally made it to running a mile!" or "I kicked up into handstand today!" are updates that we all want to hear about and share! Please put long posts and entries involving diet and nutrition behind a cut, though.

5. Aside from intro posts and injury announcements, please try to include an exercise update in every post.

Short (20 minute) elliptical session, stretches, meditation.

I'm very surprised and pleased to realize that, as wacky as the workschedule has been this week, I'm exactly where I ought to be on a Thursday: 2 long elliptical sessions, 1 short elliptical session, 1 108-pushups session, 1 long yoga session. Exxxxxcelllent.

If all goes well today I should be able to leave a bit early (to make up for the 2 hours late I stayed on Monday) and get another long yoga session in. *crosses everything*

90 modified pushups this morning with Shiva Rea. But the bigger news is that yesterday I did TWO standard pushups. I AM STRONG AND MIGHTY!

21 minutes of walking/jogging for w1d3 of c25k. I'm definitely going to have to repeat week 1 next week.

Strength training: upper body. Did my tricep dips on a higher surface and managed a set of 10 and a set of 5.

No morning yoga, owing to phone calls and people banging on my door and assorted shit I had to deal with. *growls*

But I made it to the gym, and worked on dips and pull-ups and squats and my terrible terrible bench press (I think I have trouble stabilizing my shoulders).

And I made it past bodyweight on my deadlift for the first time! In fact, I made it to three reps at 116% of bodyweight!

I hope to do some evening yoga later.

Your posts always make me wish I didn't have to pick and choose so much on my fitness goals.

I do have the advantage of currently not having a life. *rueful grin*

And I am so drooling to tackle a climbing wall somewhere, now.

You could try taking the kids to the climbing wall! Seriously, a lot of climbing walls are excellent with kids -- it might be an option if your kids would be interested.

It seems to have made my back cranky, though; I thought I'd just overworked it at the time, but now I suspect my sacroiliac's playing up again. *grumbles and applies ice*

If it is that, it's not a major injury, just annoying.

The type of meditation I do is called Jyoti meditation. This is the type that was taught to me when I took my yoga class (so it's not like I tried a bunch of different kinds of meditation, and picked this one *g* - this is just the type that my teacher teaches.) The main elements are stilling the body and stilling the mind through repeating a mantra.

My mind does not want to cooperate, though.

My mind is getting better at cooperating! I still have to work very hard at it though. I find myself thinking about meditating, rather than actually meditating, you know? But I feel like I'm making progress which is the important thing.

I don't know if it's physiological or psychological, but I do feel much calmer since I've been meditating regularly. I picked it up again because I knew that the most stressful time of our year at work was coming up and I wanted some defensive measures! Either I'm getting mellower, or our students are getting less annoying, or the meditation is really, really working.

I just managed 15 mins yoga before work. Meant to do some before bed but it was midnight before I realised, and I had to get to bed.
