Today's exercise involved schlepping a middle-aged couple's luggage from Heathrow to a bed & breakfast in Belgravia by means of the train. The Tube. The Underground...thingy.

It turns out that kettlebell training is excellent preparation for hauling overstuffed suitcases up an interminable number of stairs, so yay!

Now I'm trying to figure out where and how to jog in this area without getting creamed by a Big Red Bus.

(File that under Nice Problems To Have.)

I suggest Kensington Gardens/Hyde Park or Green Park. If it's a nice day tomorrow, the path alongside the Serpentine would be pleasant.

One of my roommates is in Italy for a year staying in a place with 100-something stairs. I'm looking forward to visiting and seeing if I can a) run all the way up to her apartment without b) killing my legs and/or lungs with c) whatever luggage I bring.

London is an amazing place to get exercise out and about. I used to get a lot of rollerblading in when I lived there. I'd recommend keeping odd hours; outside of a few nightspots the streets are pretty quiet and, in most areas, safe late at night/early morning.

ALSO, try looking up nightbus routes and following them - nightbuses are extremely cheap and it means you can run until you're exhausted/out of water and then hop straight back home afterwards. And, again, they go through areas that are trafficked enough to be safe.

I'd also though of taking a bus/tube to some new location and then making the journey back my exercise for the day.

You could try asking in [community profile] flaneurs for ideas and advice -- there are a fair few London-based flaneurs in the comm, and this is exactly our idea of fun.
