semielliptical: yogis in child pose (exercise)
[personal profile] semielliptical posting in [community profile] exercise_every_day
Hey, EED community!

Here is your daily check-in post! Hope everyone is having a great day!

If you are posting for the first time, or new to the community, please review the community's standards, below.

1. Mod (or someone else) will post a Daily Check In post, for those who prefer to note their daily activities in response to a prompt. Please only place exercise comments here.

2. All members are encouraged to post daily independent posts about their activities, if they prefer that to a prompt.

3. Please place any NON-EXERCISE comments in independent update posts and behind a cut. Some people are sensitive to discussion of diet and nutrition. That is integral to many people's exercise activities, so I want members to be able to discuss that, but for those who are here strictly to log exercise, I would like them to be able to avert their eyes.

4. Everyone is encouraged to introduce themselves, discuss their exercise goals, and post updates on their activities. "I finally made it to running a mile!" or "I kicked up into handstand today!" are updates that we all want to hear about and share! Please put long posts and entries involving diet and nutrition behind a cut, though.

5. Aside from intro posts and injury announcements, please try to include an exercise update in every post.

Morning yoga, rest day -- got a bouldering competition tomorrow, so I have to conserve strength for rushing around and squeeing. *g*

Weights:

Bench press: 15kg dumbbells, 8 reps, 7 reps.
Dumbbell row: 22kg*10 reps, 25kg*10 reps. I don't think I'm feeling this one where I should - it seems too easy, like I'm deadlifting it instead of doing a row.
Shoulder press: 10kg dumbbells, two sets of 10 reps.
Side plank: 15 seconds per side, one set. I'm damn sure my form is wrong: half my leg is still on the ground, and I can't get it off.
Stability ball plank: 60 seconds. The staff member on duty came by and gave me some tips on form, which made the exercise much harder, though still doable.

As I was carrying the 10kg dumbbells over for the shoulder press, I remembered that a couple of days ago I bought two cases of diet Coke which were the same weight, and carried them only a little bit further, to my car. It's amazing the difference ergonomics makes - the dumbbells were so much easier to carry.

Legs & Back. I can already tell my butt is going to be so sore tomorrow.

I'm often dubious about my form on the rows too. I read somewhere that you should squeeze your shoulder blades together for the bent-over rows to make sure you're lifting with your lats rather than just your arms. So every once in a while I practice the motion without weight to try to reset my form -- I can feel how my back is moving better this way.
