Thursday, December 2, 2010, Check-In

Hey, EED community!

Here is your daily check-in post! Hope everyone is having a great day!

If you are posting for the first time, or new to the community, please review the community's standards, below.

1. Mod (that's me!) will post a Daily Check In post, for those who prefer to note their daily activities in response to a prompt. Please only place exercise comments here.

2. All members are encouraged to post daily independent posts about their activities, if they prefer that to a prompt.

3. Please place any NON-EXERCISE comments in independent update posts and behind a cut. Some people are sensitive to discussion of diet and nutrition. That is integral to many people's exercise activities, so I want members to be able to discuss that, but for those who are here strictly to log exercise, I would like them to be able to avert their eyes.

4. Everyone is encouraged to introduce themselves, discuss their exercise goals, and post updates on their activities. "I finally made it to running a mile!" or "I kicked up into handstand today!" are updates that we all want to hear about and share! Please put long posts and entries involving diet and nutrition behind a cut, though.

5. Aside from intro posts and injury announcements, please try to include an exercise update in every post.

Thursday yoga with Rodney Yee. And I'm laughing at myself, today, at how LONG and DIFFICULT this dvd seemed not all that long ago. *giggles madly*

I'm definitely headed in that direction, a very good feeling. Once I stop stressing myself over Wheel (Which seemed a distant dream, just a month ago, and which I achieved briefly three!times!today!) I'll be fine.

Pilates. Didn't do anything to help my back but didn't hurt it like yoga did yesterday either.

What happened to your back in yoga? I've had some issues there and had to learn a bit about how to protect my back in various poses, so I might have some ideas (or not, depending on whether the problem is the same, but I thought I'd ask).

What happened is I spent too much of yesterday hauling around a too-heavy backpack and then I tried to get into downward-facing dog pose. The ow was there before I tried yoga but the yoga really did not help the ow.

Ah, right. FWIW, I've sometimes found gentle cat-cow tilts and "wind-relieving pose" useful for loosening things up, but basically it is just a question of letting your back recover and not straining it further.

I know nothing of cat-cow tilts and 'wind-relieving pose'. *goes to poke at Google*

ETA: OH OKAY. I know those. Thanks!

Yeah, they're pretty standard, they just seem to go under a bunch of different names. No-one seems to be able to agree whether the opposite of "cat" is "cow" or "dog", for example. *g*

But they're great for gentle work on back pain.

15 minutes of 'J.M.: Yoga Meltdown.'
-sigh- After 4 years away from yoga, I'm going to have to drag out an older DVD with better instructions and a slower pace.

Morning yoga, three hours climbing -- half an hour of me playing around on my own, two and a half hours Intermediate Bouldering Course.

By the time I got home, my hands were still burning so much that I stuck them in a snowdrift.

I have a bruise on my chest from the bleeding barbell. Those things are a ridiculous workout, no lie.
