Monday, November 1, 2010, Check-In

Hey, EED community!

Sorry so late today! It's has been a CRAZY morning in RL for me! Hope this post finds everyone well and sweaty! :D

If you are posting for the first time, or new to the community, please review the community's standards, below.

1. Mod (that's me!) will post a Daily Check In post, for those who prefer to note their daily activities in response to a prompt. Please only place exercise comments here.

2. All members are encouraged to post daily independent posts about their activities, if they prefer that to a prompt.

3. Please place any NON-EXERCISE comments in independent update posts and behind a cut. Some people are sensitive to discussion of diet and nutrition. That is integral to many people's exercise activities, so I want members to be able to discuss that, but for those who are here strictly to log exercise, I would like them to be able to avert their eyes.

4. Everyone is encouraged to introduce themselves, discuss their exercise goals, and post updates on their activities. "I finally made it to running a mile!" or "I kicked up into handstand today!" are updates that we all want to hear about and share! Please put long posts and entries involving diet and nutrition behind a cut, though.

5. Aside from intro posts and injury announcements, please try to include an exercise update in every post.

Had my first session with a personal trainer on Saturday afternoon. He did wicked things to my arms.

Vinyasa yoga yesterday morning, then lots of walking in the evening.

Today is my restful-yoga day.

Happy November!

Yoga (mostly inversions) and situps, this morning. Walked about forty minutes so far, and there'll be more when I go out this evening. Noticed that even with my cold/cough, my asthma has much less of a hold on me now. I'm not out of breath when I arrive at lectures, generally! Yay for improved health.

Yin Yoga, kidney sequence. Very interrupted but DONE, thank goodness, because now I can see and think and move without pain again!

*wonders why I don't make time for that more often given the results*

Counted steps between this building and the building with the testing center. Just over nine hundred. Can't be bothered figuring out how long a step is but it's between two and three feet, which means a trip there and back is between 3600 and 5400 feet, which means between two-thirds and one mile. Next question, why is that building so far away? Because there's five buildings on this campus total, one a couple hundred feet from the other three.

Morning yoga, and an hour's weights stuff at home, mostly with kettlebells: work on Cossack squats (I can do a whole, er, two), windmills, Turkish get-ups, overhead squats with a broomstick, assorted bodyweight squat variations, and my new discovery, the Sott's press.

Then some grocery-hauling.

(My legs hurt now.)

I decided to do the 30 Day Shred workout every day in November, so I started today. I absolutely fail at pushups & am not much better at the other ab workouts either. But the rest went pretty well. Will definitely be sore tomorrow but my aim is to improve on the ab workouts & do jumping jacks without hitting the ceiling. -_-

Yoga first thing this morning, 30 minutes. I think I'm starting to get used to early morning yoga again - last week I felt slightly nauseous in some poses and had to back off, but I didn't experience that today.

Walking after work, also 30 minutes.

Continuing my Forty Days of Yoga for nine more days. Today I did a short warm-up in the morning, and then Brian Kest Level 1 this evening. I really like the pace of that workout - it's steady but not breakneck. I can do most all the poses pretty easily (once I get a good look and figure out what they're supposed to be; he's not real good at explaining step-by-step) so it's probably time to move on to Level 2.

For November: I will finish up this 40 Days set on November 9. Then, I think I'm going to take a break (not from exercising, and not from yoga, just a short break from having a structured exercise plan, if that makes sense.) On November 23 I'll start another 40 Day set, but this time it will be the same set of asanas each day for forty days - a variation that, when I first heard of it, sounded really boring. Now, though, it strikes me as empowering. Look what I've done with these 40 days! Look what I could do with just Shiva Rea or Brian Kest or Rodney Yee every day for 40 days!
