Tuesday, December 28, 2010, Check-In

Hey, EED community!

Here is your daily check-in post! Hope everyone is having a great day!

If you are posting for the first time, or new to the community, please review the community's standards, below.

1. Mod (that's me!) will post a Daily Check In post, for those who prefer to note their daily activities in response to a prompt. Please only place exercise comments here.

2. All members are encouraged to post daily independent posts about their activities, if they prefer that to a prompt.

3. Please place any NON-EXERCISE comments in independent update posts and behind a cut. Some people are sensitive to discussion of diet and nutrition. That is integral to many people's exercise activities, so I want members to be able to discuss that, but for those who are here strictly to log exercise, I would like them to be able to avert their eyes.

4. Everyone is encouraged to introduce themselves, discuss their exercise goals, and post updates on their activities. "I finally made it to running a mile!" or "I kicked up into handstand today!" are updates that we all want to hear about and share! Please put long posts and entries involving diet and nutrition behind a cut, though.

5. Aside from intro posts and injury announcements, please try to include an exercise update in every post.

This layout where the "reply" button is far away from the previous/memory/share/track/next always confuses me for several seconds... silly brain.

Did my little bit tonight while I listened to the music from Dr Who At The Proms. Not very exercisey music (nice flowing orchestral TV-soundtrack music!) but my exercises are not very bouncy so it worked well.

Current list, in case anybody is interested, is this:
Lying Swan Stretch (15 secs in elbows, 15 secs on hands)
Lying Spinal Articulation bridge (10 reps)
Swiss ball knee kicks (10 each leg)
Lying Bent knee fall-out (10 each leg)
Sitting Dumbell fly (with no weights though) (10)
Lying punch upwards (4 sets of 15)
Side lying knee-lift "clams" (10 each side)
Sitting bicep curls (no weight) (10 each arm)
Swiss ball pelvic circles (10 each way)
Swiss ball knee lifts (10 each leg)

I am adding another exercise to the end approximately each day, depending on how I feel. Once I have the whole set of them (pre-organized with physiotherapist) being done each day I'll increase the reps slowly.

I know this list is teensy tiny compared to what most of you do (it's about 15 mins of exercise for me, BTW.) but I have spent basically a decade bedridden and I have just got healthy enough that I can walk around the house (eg walk to the bathroom! yay!) and do complicated things like sit up long enough to have a shower. I'm still needing about 22 hours a day lying down in bed. So yes, circumstances are relevant :). And I know lots of you here so I know you'll cheer appropriately for me!

Morning yoga (extended as I've been achy lately; I suspect this is meds-related, but it makes me cranky anyway).

Then the Shoulder Shape-up DVD again (liking it so far -- if it keeps being useful, I'll try to write up a review for [community profile] sun_salutation), and some bodyweight squats work. My Cossack squats are up to 6 per side, w00t!

Also I engaged in some possibly-foolhardy experimentation to see if I could invent the revolved windmill ("windmills" are basically trikonasana with a weight in your top hand, therefore ...).

"Warrior Workout" with Ravi Singh and Ana Brett. I love these workouts, such a nice change from what I normally do (and will do, again, this evening, six more days to go) with their emphasis on breathing and abs/upper body work. Thanks, [personal profile] muck_a_luck, for the really helpful review!

Just joined this group today and just joined DW yesterday. =) I hope to do a more involved intro post, but at a later time.

Just wanted to share that I generally started exercising daily in February this year and it changed my life. I'm going to keep it going through this cold Cleveland winter.

And today I made a breakthrough towards that goal in that I purchased a stationary bike on Amazon.com and it came today! Goal for tonight is assemble the cycle and take my first ride, hopefully 45 min to an hour.

I'm glad to be here. Good luck with your exercising!

6 km walking in the mostly well-trodden snow, standard gym program of strength training, stretching and running. Didn't do a warm-up as I had just walked there, and all the ellipticals were in use. Seems people are starting on their New Years Resolutions early. *g*

Managed 4 kg in 3 sets of 8 on my lateral raises, and 100 kg on the leg press (also 3 sets of 8). On the down side, fell off the balance ball when doing a plank on it while attempting to roll the ball around some. Ouch.

Fought through some screaming thigh muscles for a 3+ mile walk in the rain this morning. The day after my first crossfit class is feeling just a wee bit intense.

Almost 2 hours of shoveling snow over the course of the day and an hour's slow tramp/hike through piles to get somewhere and back (the somewhere ended up being closed). Not feeling any need to do more.

I put together a 30 minute workout on the WiiFit, and got through 24 minutes of it. I think for tomorrow I'll remove one element from the workout.

I also briefly tried out EA Sports Active, which we picked up cheap in the Boxing Day Sales. Might do a workout from that tomorrow. Meanwhile, this is three days in a row of exercise, so I feel like I'm doing a jolly good job so far.

Second 1-hr dance class of the week.
